So, I got a bit behind with my writing. I knew the habit would be broken sooner or later. To be fair, the days have been pretty similar so I’ve felt no pressing need to keep a day by day account.

Before going to the hospital with Vinod, our project manager, I made some flash cards to help the children learn vowel sounds. We set off in a taxi at 11.
At the hospital a man, who turned out to be a doctor, was assessing my hand before I’d even sat down. Within ten minutes I was having an x-ray. As it happens I have multiple fractures in my hand and I’m not sure as to how they arrived there. Maybe jujitsu? Maybe digging? Who knows. Amazingly, we arrived back at 12.45. The taxi ride was about 15-20 minutes each way and they’d plaster-casted my arm so I was pretty impressed.

I helped teach Segen's class today, the one that Usha is in. They're all so sweet, the 2 boys and 2 girls. I really wish I could speak Hindi though, it'd make life so much easier. That afternoon I taught Vikas again whilst his usual teacher, Joe, did plantation.
That evening Clarke had another look at my hand and told me to go to the doctor the next day. He also worked on my neck and shoulder a bit.

Today I helped teach Michelle’s class in the morning. It was nice to get a chance to teach a different age group. In the afternoon, because of the lack of volunteers present and my hand being swollen and sore I taught Vikas, a boy in class 5. He seemed quite shy, but really sweet.
In the evening Clarke had a look at my hand and decided to bandage it up which I was immensely grateful for as that’s all I’d wanted to do all day.

Today we caught the bus to Kangra, it took about 1.5 hours and was pretty cramped, but it was OK because Donald lent me an earphone and we listened to Metallica for that time. Our first touristy stop was Kangra Fort. Once again, I had no idea it’d be so beautiful. The fort, with its intricate detail on certain walls, is set in a lush, green valley with a gorgeous river running through it. At the top of the fort you’re very high up and the views stretch for miles; if you looked up in a certain direction and above the obvious horizon you could see the mountains seemingly floating in the sky.

Jo and I got up at 6.30 much to Jo's surprise. We did our own stretching and suchlike and Donald appeared at about 7 o'clock. He lazed about for a bit whilst I tried teaching Jo how to do interior hip circles – a bellydance move - and then Donald went through some more Jujitsu.
We had pancakes at breakfast and I managed to scrounge some sugar and lemon. Happy days!

Debi, Jo and I got up at 7am. It was meant to be 6.30 but I'd set my alarm in English time but luckily woke up naturally at 7. Donald had been waiting for us bless him. First I taught some yoga then Donald taught us some Jujitsu which was brilliant. I really want to learn some form of martial arts when I get home.

Again I was up at 7am and I bumped into Anna. I did a small amount of yoga but not much. I was aching a lot by then. No children were there for daycare today so Kris and I watered trees. Easy, I hear you say. Well yes, technically. However, the water tank fills up buckets at a rate of about and inch every 45 seconds so it was a pretty slow process.

At 7am I got up with Debi and Jo and we did some yoga downstairs. Anna joined in too. At 9 o'clock I left the house with the other appropriate volunteers – Jo, Segen, Janelle, Kris, Michelle, Lizi, Charlotte, Amber and Katy – and our Project Executive Rakesh. Sukeri is gorgeous with beautiful views from the school looking across miles of tree covered hills that fade into the distance.

I had a lie in today and got up at 8 o'clock (I can't believe I'm calling that a lie in!). My stomach wasn't feeling too friendly but I tried to ignore it. We had another Hindi lesson after breakfast before setting out in the 4x4's to see the different work areas: Thala, Sukeri, Drovi and Malanta.
