Today we caught the bus to Kangra, it took about 1.5 hours and was pretty cramped, but it was OK because Donald lent me an earphone and we listened to Metallica for that time. Our first touristy stop was Kangra Fort. Once again, I had no idea it’d be so beautiful. The fort, with its intricate detail on certain walls, is set in a lush, green valley with a gorgeous river running through it. At the top of the fort you’re very high up and the views stretch for miles; if you looked up in a certain direction and above the obvious horizon you could see the mountains seemingly floating in the sky.

After we left the fort we went to visit a temple. Barefoot we entered into the square walls. There were monkeys everywhere, running over the walls and scurrying across the floor on the look-out for crumbs. Massive wasp-like things flew about and crawled dozily on the floor. There was a large, twisted tree with loads of gold and red ribbon strewn from the branches; in the sunlight they seemed to glow slightly.

I was very hungry by now, and Katy and I sat down and watched the others milling around. People stopped to let their daughters shake our hands or take photos of themselves with us: the strange westerners. As we sat we observed Joe doing some kind of newly developed dance, it involved holding his arms out at shoulder height and stepping forwards and sideways erratically in order to avoid the wasp-like creatures who were beginning to drive him to insanity. I don’t think he likes insects much.

We left the temple and headed back through the narrow market streets to a restaurant we had agreed to go to. About half the group went home and the other had some food. After the much needed meal we realised we’d better head back.

On the bus back I was next to a window, I tried dozing but kept banging my head on a cunningly positioned bolt. My left hand was very sore as was my neck and shoulder so once back at camp I had fellow volunteer – and qualified physio - Clarke take a quick look. He then kindly agreed to have a proper look on Monday evening.
