Situation in India

Platform2's picture

We realise that people at home may have concerns about the safety of the volunteers who are presently in India / shortly to leave for India. We would like to allay any fears you may have with the following information. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to phone us: 0800 988 68 28.

*This page will be updated regularly to give you the most recent information about Platform2 trips to India.*

Platform2 would like to inform all family and friends of any Platform2 volunteers in India at the moment or going to India on 9th December that they are not in any danger.

IDEX, Platform2’s in-country partner in India (who is based in Jaipur), haS no concerns for the safety of Platform2 volunteers currently in-country or arriving on 9th December.

Platform2 volunteers do not go anywhere near Mumbai whilst in India:

They fly into Delhi (distance from Mumbai: 1,161 km)

Map of IndiaThey visit the Taj Mahal (not to be confused with the Taj Mahal hotel in Mumbai that is one of the sites of the terrorist attacks) in Agra (distance from Mumbai: 1,052 km)

They travel to Jaipur (distance from Mumbai: 932 km) for their in-country orientation

They then go up to the project, near Palampur in Himachal Pradesh (distance from Mumbai: 1,502 km).

Participants will fly out of Delhi as planned to leave India and we do not have any specific concerns for their safety.

The map shows the 3 locations our volunteers visit, indicated by the red arrows – Delhi is where the volunteers fly in and out of, and they visit Agra and Jaipur as part of their orientation. The project itself is in the Palampur area of Himachal Pradesh. The location of the recent terrorist attacks, Mumbai, can be found to the south west with a red ring around it.

As it stands, Platform2 and IDEX do not currently see a need to amend the itinerary for the group travelling to India on 9th December. However, we reserve the right to make last minute changes to their itinerary, should new information come to light about the safety of planned destinations. It is possible that sight-seeing visits to the Taj Mahal in Agra and the Amber Fort in Jaipur might be cancelled. Any decisions about this will be based on the safety of volunteers, FCO (the Foreign & Commonwealth Office) advice and the local knowledge of our in-country partners. Platform2 has complete confidence in IDEX when it comes to ensuring that all of our volunteers are safe and well taken care of. We will keep you informed should any plans change.

Both Platform2 and IDEX are in regular contact with the volunteers currently at the project in India. They are safe and will remain at the project placement as planned.
