SOUTH AFRICA

No Xpectations Zine

Platform2's picture

In 2010, Romesa (23, London) fulfilled her dream to see development issues firsthand by taking part in international volunteering programme Platform2. After studying development at university, she longed to put her knowledge to practical use during her time with Platform2 by immersing herself in the Peruvian community where she spent 10 weeks.

World cup starts

Since my last blog it has been crazy here in South Africa as everybody was getting ready for the World cup kick off. There have been concerts, dances and other things to help get ready for the world cup 2010 but enough about that. Massi has been pretty good recently by this I mean the staff are learning to accept that we are there to help them not to tell them what to do. The children that come to the centre are so grateful to have somewhere to go to after they have finished school and they know that they can have a good meal there before returning home at the end of the day.

First week

Hey guys. I have been here just over a week now and I'm starting to miss home a bit but I'm thinking of all the children that need my help out here in South Africa. We started work on our projects and mine was a bit difficult to start off with as there was no structure to go on but as the week progressed we started to implement some things for the volunteers to carry on with after we have left the project in a few weeks time when we swap with the other 7 volunteers.
