The group of 14 are out in Kumasi & we’ve just moved in with our host families. We’re having a brilliant time & really grateful to have this unique experience. It is a great opportunity & we’re trying to make the most of it!
THANK YOU!!!

1st impressions are that I love Ghana, we’re staying in Accra until Sunday morning.
Things that have made me laugh so far...seeing the goats go down the road on the pavement, about 20 sellers surrounding the mini bus trying to sell things while 2 members of the group went to the bank!!
A bottle of coke is 18p. Quality!!
Today we’re learning African dancing & drumming - or an introduction!
They do have loo roll here, I am the oldest of the group by a month & we’re getting on well so far!
No sign of mosquitoes yet or a rain storm...but I’m sure there will be soon enough!
Thursday 12th June 08
Today is cloudier than the past day. We’ve had a brief Twi lesson... it was ok!
For lunch we ate plantain & bean thing with some kind of fish! I loved it. I’m pretty lucky that I like almost all food!
I’m thinking of getting plaits or something for my hair.
We’re stopping by at Accra temple on Friday - much to my delight.
We went out for a drink at a place called “Bus stop”, I had a pineapple drink yum yum...more later!
Saturday 14th June 08
I’m leaving Accra in the morning. I got used to this place & even got to pass the temple on the way back to the “Pink hostel”. It was ace.
I’m more excited about leaving & finding out about the village we’re staying in & our host family. I’ll be sharing a room with a girl called Rachel who is doing a photography project. Sounds pretty cool.
Yesterday (Friday 13th) one of the girls in our group had to go home due to a family matter. It’s a shame.
Today we also had an outdoor cooking lesson with Mama Joanna. It was weird. We had to fan a cooking pot & wait about 2 hours...and she had 4 dogs...skinny ones with things wrong with them :(
But we went to the beautiful beach again & this time I was prepared for all the people trying to sell us stuff. It was a beautiful time down by the sea. I bought a cool statue & a bracelet. For a good price - of course!
Then it started to rain - which was very atmospheric & we ran for cover in a big beach hut where some happy music was playing loudly & we just danced! It was quality.
Probably won’t be on here for about a week or 2...so take care everyone!!
:)
Bye for now
Heather
