We were very kindly taken to the Taj Mahal. Now, I've seen pictures of it but nothing prepared me for just how stunning it is. White marble structure, set against a dreamlike background. At first it's hard to believe that it won't disappear as you get closer to it. The amazing detail takes your breath away. And photos just don't do it justice, so if you ever get the chance, go see it. I won't even attempt an explanation as it would do it no favours.
After the visit we went back to the hotel for lunch and to get our luggage for the next part of the journey. Another long bus ride, this time to Rajasthan. This was where we were to spend the next 3 nights, split into groups and staying with host families. I stayed with Joy and Debi, 2 lovely Northern Irish gals from my group. Our host family, the Andrews, consisted of JR Andrew, his son, his son's wife and their son. We were welcomed warmly and treated very well. They were a lovely bunch and the setting was beautiful. Our rooms opened out onto a flat roof terrace. The bathroom was simple, although I was surprised to see it had a western toilet. Buckets were used for washing ourselves. The food was delicious, especially on the last night when they prepared a proper Rajasthani dish.
